Stick it on the fridge
Links are for group chats. Some people, and some places, don't have one. When you make a link, ShipLock also gives you a QR code and a printable card. A phone camera turns it back into the link.
The fridge: a shop run for someone who hates typing addresses
Make the Shop run example (one click under Get started), create an Add only link, press Print a card. Stick it on your parents' fridge. When they run out of milk they point the phone at it, type "milk", press the big green button. You see the list; they do not have to see anything. Nobody installed anything, nobody made an account, nobody typed a link.
The cache: a logbook that lives in the tin
Geocachers leave paper logbooks that get wet. Make the Cache logbook example, create an Edit link so finders can read who came before and sign below them, print the card, laminate it, put it in the tin. The log lives online, in your account, and you can read it from the sofa. The card carries nothing but the code; if it is stolen, revoke the link and print another.
The table: the potluck card, the wedding photo wall
A card by the door with "Scan to add your dish" or "Scan to add a photo". Add-only links work like a form, so guests add without seeing each other's entries. The printable card already says what the link lets someone do, in plain words, under the code.
Good to know
- The code is just the link. Anyone who scans it has what the link allows, no more. Pick the role before you print.
- A revoked link makes every printed copy of it dead. Print a new one.
- Home screens have codes too: one card for Grandma, scan, "Add to Home Screen", done.
- The code is drawn on your device; the link never leaves it until you choose to share.
