Closes Friday at five. It means it
A sign-up sheet that keeps taking names after the deadline is a sheet you have to police. Give it a closing time and forget about it.
Three ways to close
- Until a time. "Entries stop Friday 6pm." After that, the add-only link shows "Entries closed on Fri 24 Oct, 18:00" and the form is gone.
- Set hours. Days of the week and a from-to time, in your time zone. A shop-run list that only takes requests before the Saturday shop; a help desk that is only open in office hours. Outside the window the link says when it opens again.
- Closed. A switch, for "we're full" or "not this week". Flip it back when you like.
Find it on the app's page under Entries from Add-only links. Add a line of your own if you want ("Sign-ups closed, see you Saturday"); otherwise ShipLock says something sensible.
Who it applies to
Only add-only links. You, and anyone with an edit link, keep working as usual, so you can still add the latecomer who phoned. View links are unaffected because they never added anything.
Under the hood, for the curious
The server refuses the write, not just the page, so a clever visitor cannot get round it. Apps are told the closing sentence in SL.closed and the ones we ship hide their form and show it. An app your AI wrote before this existed will still be refused and should show the error it gets back.
